Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 12, 2026
CivicPulse (“we”, “our”, “the app”) lets residents rate localities across India on cleanliness, roads, water, noise, and green cover. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it. It is written to align with India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDP Act, 2023).
1. Who we are
CivicPulse is developed and operated by an individual developer based in India. For any privacy queries or grievances, contact us at civicpulse.tech@gmail.com.
2. What data we collect
- Account information: your email address, and your name where provided, via Google Sign-In, Sign in with Apple, or email sign-in with a one-time code.
- Location data: approximate or precise location when you submit a rating, so it can be linked to the correct locality (a 100×100 m grid cell). We do not track your location in the background.
- Ratings you submit: your ratings across the five civic dimensions.
- Device and usage data: basic technical data (device type, app version) needed to keep the app working and to debug crashes.
3. Why we collect it
- To let you sign in and maintain your account
- To attach your ratings to the correct locality on the map
- To calculate and display aggregate, anonymized civic-quality scores for localities across India
- To prevent abuse (e.g. rating cooldowns, spam prevention)
- To improve the app and fix bugs
4. Legal basis and consent
We process your personal data on the basis of your consent, given when you create an account and agree to this policy. You may withdraw consent at any time by deleting your account (see Section 7). CivicPulse is not intended for use by anyone under 18 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect data from minors.
5. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the service providers that help us run the app:
- Supabase (database and authentication hosting, region: ap-south-1, Mumbai)
- Google (Google Sign-In authentication)
- Apple (Sign in with Apple, iOS only)
- OpenFreeMap (map rendering, based on OpenStreetMap data; your approximate map viewport, not your personal identity, is shared with the tile provider)
- Resend (delivery of one-time sign-in codes to your email address)
Aggregated civic-quality scores (locality-level averages, not individual ratings) may be shared publicly or with municipal/government bodies as part of the app’s core purpose. Individual ratings are not shared with third parties in a personally identifiable way.
6. How we store and protect your data
Your data is stored on Supabase’s infrastructure in the ap-south-1 (Mumbai) region, using industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections. We retain your data for as long as your account is active.
7. Your rights, including deletion
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. To request deletion, visit our Account Deletion page.
When you delete your account, we permanently remove your personal information (name, email, account identifiers). Ratings you’ve submitted remain in the system in anonymized form (with no link back to you) so that the civic data you contributed to your community is preserved.
You may also contact us directly at civicpulse.tech@gmail.com for any data access, correction, or grievance requests. We aim to respond within 30 days.
8. Children’s privacy
CivicPulse is not directed at, and should not be used by, anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date above.
10. Contact
Questions or grievances about this policy or your data can be sent to civicpulse.tech@gmail.com.
